Comedy in Early World Cinema | Film lecture series byJethuMundul Starting 15th January 2018 Mondays & Tuesdays: 5-8 pm Film lecture series will be conducted over 7 and a half weeks, in three modules. This is a unique lecture series on Comedy in Early World Cinema. As a genre, comedy has been able to survive all technological developments as cinema has moved from silent to sound, from black and white to colour, and has been incorporated into trick photography and editing concepts. The lectures will explore the journey of comedy from the origins of cinema through the understanding of the role of primitive cinema and the subsequent separation of slapstick from both actuality and narrative. It will include a study of Early World Cinema from its beginnings prior to 1895 until the start of the World War II. The course is divided into three modules of 5 hours each. MODULE 1: The Introduction to Comedy in Cinema Jan 15 29, 2018 Every Monday and Tuesday, 5-8 pm MODULE 2: The Early Comics/Comedians in Cinema from Europe and USA Jan 30 Feb 13, 2018 Every Monday and Tuesday, 5-8 pm MODULE 3: The development of the Art of later Comedians through Silent Cinema and into the Sound Era. He has 40 years of experience as a film editor in making films on various socio-cultural issues. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune,Jethu Mundulhas been a faculty at FTII, NID, IIT, Kochi Biennale and film societies in Bangalore and Bangladesh. This event is going to be a wonderful experience.
